Wendy is a 1985 graduate of Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC with an Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology. She is presently employed with York School District One in York, South Carolina, where she is assigned to Jefferson Elementary School. Wendy also works for Tega Cay Speaks providing speech therapy outside of school hours. She has been employed in the York school district for over 20 years serving students pre-k to grade 5 including preschool disabilities and autism. Wendy is a member of ASHA and is the current Division 16 liaison for South Carolina. She has been an ASHA State Education Advocacy Leader (SEAL) representing South Carolina; she was further appointed as one of 11 SEALs in the United States to form an ASHA ASPIRE cadre for the purposes of training professionals and parents on IDEA law Wendy is a former president of the South Carolina Speech-Language and Hearing Associaton. As District Teacher of the Year, she was elected to and served in the South Carolina Speech and Hearing Association in 1996 and was named the South Carolina Outstanding Young American in Education, presented by the South Carolina Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1997. Wendy has been an Educational Improvement Act Grant Reader for the SC State Department of Education for 15 years and has secured over $80,000 in grant funding for the speech program at Jefferson Elementary School in York School District One in York, South Carolina. he has been a frequent local and state presenter on such topics as "Maximize Your Funding Grants", "Celebrate Collaborate", "Here They Come - Chit Chat Chums", "The ABC's of Speech Pathology", "Preliteracy Language and Young Children" (PLAY) and "The Big Mack Attack". Wendy resides in Rock Hilll, SC with her husband Dough Gay, a business law attorney.
